WGBH's Drama Club is just a little bit obsessed with Professor T and its star, Koen De Bouw. The Belgian drama follows Jasper Teerlinck, a brilliant professor in Antwerp who helps the local police with puzzling crimes. As many brilliant crime solvers are, his eccentric nature sometimes makes him difficult to work with. Sometimes you love him, sometimes you hate him. But as Professor T, De Bouw is always fascinating to watch on screen.
If you’ve never seen Professor T, let us introduce you to De Bouw — your new obsession.
Watch Professor T on WGBX, beginning September 18, or stream it now on WGBH Passport.
1. His breakout role was playing a serial killer.
From 1995 to 1996, De Bouw appeared on the long-running Belgian soap opera
Wittekerke. As serial killer Stef Tavernier, he escapes prison and takes revenge of anyone who ever hurt him.
2. He starred in a short-lived Amazon series.
De Bouw is probably best known to American audiences through his role in Emmy-nominated The Last Tycoon. The Amazon series starred Matt Bomer and Kelsey Grammer and the story was loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's book of the same name. De Bouw played Tomas Szep, a Hungarian immigrant who heads the security department of a Hollywood studio in the 1930s. Unfortunately, the series was canceled in 2017.

3. His voice appears in the Flemish Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
De Bouw lent his voice to the award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In the Flemish version,
he voices Spider Man Noir, who was originally voiced by Nicolas Cage.
4. As a model, he channeled his inner JFK.
De Bouw partnered with the menswear label Jack & Jones for an ad campaign for their Premium collection. In the ads, he takes inspiration from John F. Kennedy's charisma and oratory splendor while rehearsing his speech about an artist’s role in society.
5. He played the Belgian Prime Minister.
Speaking of American Presidents, De Bouw starred as the Belgian Prime Minister in the film De Premier (The Prime Minister) with an epic plot twist: He is kidnapped and must murder the American president to be released. To prepare for the role, he had dinner with former Belgian PM Yves Leterme.
6. He loves gardening.
From 2007 to 2011, De Bouw hosted the Flemish show
Groene Vingers, or “Green Fingers.” The show features de Bouw traveling around Belgium talking to experts on a wide range of gardening topics.
7. Modeling runs in the family.
As does good looks — De Bouw has two sons in their early twenties who have dabbled in modeling. Both appeared in the Jack & Jones campaign with their father. Jolan is working those cheekbones
as a professional model.
8. He is one of very few Belgian actors working in Hollywood.
Aside from Matthias Schoenaerts, finding Belgians with starring roles in Hollywood is still rare. As a Belgian actor, De Bouw has to be flexible with language. “[Acting] in a foreign language remains a handicap,” he
told a Flemish newspaper. “Unless of course you are called Matthias Schoenaerts and have a perfect command of several languages.”
9. He’s a style icon in Belgium.
In 2016, De Bouw was named "Best Dressed Man" by Belgian business magazine Trends Style. And by looking at
his Instagram, it looks like he is still living up to that title.
