Of course, the lady in question is none other than our pal Victoria Mars, who quickly makes her way into the office to do some desk rifling. A locked drawer is no match for our heroine, but just as she secures the bag of money she presumably came here for, a central casting Creepy British Child appears out of thin air to threaten the entire enterprise.

Our show begins, as all gritty Victorian series must, in the grim, grey, foggy streets of London. A small child dashes through a puddle, when through the mist she appears: the titular heroine of the piece, Miss Scarlet, the Victorian version of Veronica Mars. What’s she up to? Well, she’s meeting with the aforementioned child in a darkened building to investigate some kind of crime. For providing her with a scene and not calling the fuzz, she pays Not-Oliver-Twist and sends him on his way before beginning her investigation in earnest.

So last week, in the penultimate episode, Baby Bennet ran off with human dumpster fire Wicker Man, ruining everyone’s good time, but then was found and forced into marriage, which kind of saved the day. What on earth will happen next?
