October was a sweet time for us — it was National Dessert Month! So for this month's You & Julia Challenge , we asked our fans to show us their most delicious desserts. Christopher Kimball, founder of Milk Street, kicked off the challenge and shared his tips for chocolate mousse . Here are our favorite fan submissions.
Best Presented: Karine M's Carrot Cake
Karine says: "I made this beautiful and delicious carrot, pecan, caramel, ginger cake — it's my family’s favorite."
Judges say: “Not only does the cake look delicious, but she went all out and styled the set for the photograph. A real pro.”
Best Effort: Maggie B's Birthday Cake
Judges say: “Nothing celebrates a milestone like a home-baked cake, and this one is especially nice. Whipped cream frosting on cakes is a light but elegant touch and the edible flowers really brighten it up.”
One We’d Like To Try: Elke W's Mirabelle Cheesecake
Judges say: “This dessert looks really interesting. Based on the picture, it seems to be half cake, half cheesecake with a plum filling, which is quite unusual. Plus, finding Mirabelle plums is next to impossible, so we’d love to try not only the cheesecake, but a bite of one of those fresh plums as well."
