October was a sweet time for us — it was National Dessert Month! So for this month's You & Julia Challenge, we asked our fans to show us their most delicious desserts. Christopher Kimball, founder of Milk Street, kicked off the challenge and shared his tips for chocolate mousse. Here are our favorite fan submissions.
Best Presented: Karine M's Carrot Cake
Karine says: "I made this beautiful and delicious carrot, pecan, caramel, ginger cake — it's my family’s favorite."
Judges say: “Not only does the cake look delicious, but she went all out and styled the set for the photograph. A real pro.”
Best Effort: Maggie B's Birthday Cake
Judges say: “Nothing celebrates a milestone like a home-baked cake, and this one is especially nice. Whipped cream frosting on cakes is a light but elegant touch and the edible flowers really brighten it up.”
One We’d Like To Try: Elke W's Mirabelle Cheesecake
Judges say: “This dessert looks really interesting. Based on the picture, it seems to be half cake, half cheesecake with a plum filling, which is quite unusual. Plus, finding Mirabelle plums is next to impossible, so we’d love to try not only the cheesecake, but a bite of one of those fresh plums as well."
