
Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg

Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, Ph.D., is a leading expert in youth civic engagement and education. She recently concluded her role as Newhouse Director of CIRCLE at Tufts University, where she advanced the organization’s role as a key resource for youth civic learning and engagement.
Her research aims to effect practice, policy or mindset shifts among civic education and youth civic engagement stakeholders by producing evaluations and research with actionable insights.
Kawashima-Ginsberg has spearheaded interdisciplinary collaborations, such as partnerships with environmental educators and media organizations (including a partnership with GBH’s Arthur series) and contributed to initiatives like Educating for American Democracy. She has served on boards of youth-centered civic organizations such as March for Our Lives, Rhizome, Generation Citizen and Democracy Works. Holding a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Chicago, her background in positive youth development and community psychology shapes her approach to research and community engagement.
