John S. Reed
former CEO, Citicorp and Citibank
John S. Reed is Treasurer of the American Academy and Chair of the Investment Committee. He retired in 2000 after a 35 year career with Citibank, Citicorp, and Citigroup. He was elected chairman and CEO of Citicorp and Citibank in 1984. Citicorp merged with the Travelers Company in 1998, and subsequently he served as chairman and co-CEO of the new company Citigroup. He served as chairman of the New York Stock Exchange from September 2003 until April 2005. Life member of the Corporation of MIT, trustee of MDRC, and fellow of the American Philosophical Society, he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 1998.
