Ilse Köhler-Rollefson
Co-Founder of the League for Pastoral Peoples and Endogenous Livestock Development
Ilse Köhler-Rollefson is an academic turned activist for sustainable livestock keeping. In 1992, after a research project with the Raika camel breeders in Rajasthan/India, she co-founded the League for Pastoral Peoples and Endogenous Livestock Development, an international advocacy organization for pastoralism. Based in Rajasthan (India), she has published more than 100 scientific papers and a popular book “Camel Karma” about her twenty years living among the Raika. Besides being the co-founder of India's first dedicated camel dairy, she frequently consults with international agencies, including at UN level. She tweets about 'good livestock keepers' at @IlseKohler and is looking forward to the publication of her next book about 'Herding. Therapy for a Broken Planet' in early 2023.
