Gilbert Hetherwick learned about classical music as well as Broadway shows from his father's records but he later gravitated toward blues, rock, folk, and country when he began playing instruments at the age of twelve. Soon after beginning to play the guitar he began to write songs and has not stopped since. Hetherwick graduated college with a degree in Architecture while also pursuing painting and photography. After finishing college he moved to New Orleans where he began playing the local clubs including a regular night at the legendary Tipitina's. He worked as an opening act for many national touring acts during their stops in Louisiana.
