Gary Mott
Radio Production Director
Gary Mott oversees the team of radio broadcast engineers responsible for making 89.7 sound great, from Morning Edition, to All Things Considered and Boston Public Radio. Additionally, he supports the post-production requirements of GBH News, providing sound collection training and guidance on best practices to reporters and producers in the newsroom.
In his long career at GBH, Gary pioneered the podcast format as Associate Producer of GBH Morning Stories, which was included in the July 2005 launch of Apple's Podcast directory in iTunes. He produced national and regional series and specials for radio, including PRI's Sound & Spirit with Ellen Kushner, NPR's Says You, and A Christmas Celtic Sojourn with Brian O'Donovan. He wrote grant proposals for varied initiatives and managed multi-platform projects, including the building of a virtual music studio in Second Life and overseeing the digitizing of a rare radio broadcast of the 1963 March on Washington. Outside of public media, Gary taught Advanced Field Recording and Audio Documentary at Boston University's College of Communication Center for Digital Imaging Arts.
Gary earned a B.A.in English (writing)/Speech Communications from North Park University in Chicago, and a M.A. in Mass Communication from Emerson College in Boston.
