Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will address residents live from MGM Music Hall at Fenway Wednesday night.
Ahead of her speech, Wu has already announced the launch of a new “Energy Saver” program in partnership with Eversource and National Grid. The program calls for 5,000 new heat pumps in Boston and the weatherizing of 10,000 buildings by 2027.
Addressing energy costs is one way Wu aims to show she’s trying to fix Boston’s biggest problems as she looks toward this year’s mayoral election. She has said she plans on seeking a second term but has not yet formally declared her candidacy.
Ahead of her speech, challenger Josh Kraft is arguing that Wu has failed to seriously tackle issues like substance abuse, housing and mental health at Mass. and Cass, as well as recent crime complaints in downtown Boston.
