If you think of book bans as something that happens in deep-red states like Florida and Texas, it's time to think again. This spring, in several South Coast communities, the notion that public school libraries should be vigorously policed is getting a protracted hearing. Adam Reilly is joined by reporter Colin Hogan of the New Bedford Light, who says pro-book ban candidates are also focused issues like sex education and transgender accomodations and are having a tangible impact despite failing at the ballot box. Adam also speaks with political scientist Shannon Jenkins of UMass Dartmouth, who says the South Coast's unique political character makes it fertile ground for such efforts.
