CNN's town hall this week with former President Donald Trump has sparked a massive backlash among media observers, with some accusing the network of journalistic malpractice for giving Trump a forum in which to spout untruths and incendiary claims as supporters cheered. CNN, though, is taking a victory lap of sorts, saying moderator Kaitlan Collins performed admirably and that the town hall itself offered a bracing reminder of who Trump is and what's at stake as he seeks reelection.
Was the event a mistake? And whatever the answer, what lessons might it offer the media as a whole when it comes to covering Trump as he seeks another term? Adam Reilly discusses these and other questions with Brian Stelter, who was formerly CNN's chief media correspondent and the anchor of the network's "Reliable Sources" program.
