Interim Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden, fresh off a primary victory against challenger Ricardo Arroyo after a controversy-filled campaign, said the number one priority of his office will be building trust, and connecting and engaging with the community.
Hayden joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston for his first post-primary television interview. "At the end of the day, I want all of our community to know that we are going to be truly engaged with our community like never before," he said.
He highlighted his record on criminal legal reform, including intervention and prevention efforts with youth, along with the hiring of an entire community engagement team. Hayden said, "We're going to cover Suffolk County like the waters cover the sea."
The victory over Ricardo Arroyo came down to voters valuing experience, according to Hayden, who said, "I'm built for this." He has spent 25 years as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney.
"I'm not a politician but I am a public servant and I take that very seriously and I take that to heart," Hayden said.
Braude asked Hayden about rumors that the leak about the investigations into Arroyo came from the DA’s office. “I don’t know where they came from, but I don’t believe they came from our office,” Hayden said.
