Almost 100 days into his presidency, President Biden made his first address to Congress Wednesday evening. The president noted the history of the moment, as two women — Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi — sat behind him. Jon Keller, WBZ political analyst, and Callie Crossley, host of GBH's Under The Radar and Basic Black, joined Joe Mathieu on Morning Edition to discuss the address, as well as the Republican response from Sen. Tim Scott.

As Biden laid out his expansive agenda of social programs and tax increases, Crossley said the president was showing a “new kind of bipartisanship,” with a message aimed directly at the people. Keller said his straightforward, plainspoken rhetoric was an effort to reach middle-class working Americans.
