A new book from Washington Post reporters Philip Rucker and Carol Leonnig explores the anti-democratic and self-centered leadership of former President Trump, particularly during his final year in office, ranging from his handling of the coronavirus outbreak to the January 6 Capitol attack. Rucker joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston to discuss what the journalist duo learned in their reporting.
Rucker and Leonnig spoke to more than 140 people in Trump’s circle to understand his leadership style. They concluded that, essentially, he cared more about himself than his country.
“We’re journalists; we’re objective finders of fact,” Rucker said. “In this case, we did all of this scrupulous reporting and interviews and reviews of documents, and that’s the conclusion we had to draw because that’s where the facts led. It’s not a partisan take; it’s the cold hard reality of the situation.”
