Speaking Thursday on Boston Public Radio, Andrea Cabral, former Suffolk County sheriff and Massachusetts secretary of public safety, commended the job done by the House impeachment managers at this week’s Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.
“Certainly as a lawyer, definitely as a citizen — I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a case put together as well as these House managers have put together this case,” Cabral said.
"What you are seeing in front of you, it is indisputable that a sitting president of the United States curated and assembled, and then unleashed, an insurrectionist mob on a separate and co-equal branch of government, and his own vice-president in the executive branch. It’s indisputable," she added.
Throughout the week, impeachment managers have been steadily presenting their case for why Trump ought to be convicted on the charge of incitement of insurrection for his actions around the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Cabral was also quick to chide the defense made so far by Trump’s attorneys. Still, she doesn't expect what she said was a lackluster performances to impact the Senate's final vote because of strong Republican support for acquittal.
"They really don’t have a case, and they really don’t care,” she said. "They think the votes are in the bag … you can basically stand up in front of the jury and, you know, drool. And if the votes are in the bag, it really doesn’t matter what you say.”
She added, though, that despite the defiance shown by Senate Republicans on the question of impechment, House managers have not made an acquital vote easy.
"Those [senators] are also witnesses, and they didn’t know until yesterday just how close they were to serious harm or death," she said.
