In the crowded Democratic field of presidential hopefuls, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont leads home-state U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren among Massachusetts primary voters, according to fresh poll results from Emerson Polling.
Sanders, who ran for the party's nomination in 2016, registered the support of 26 percent of Massachusetts registered voters polled, while former Vice President Joe Biden trailed close behind with 23 percent support.
Warren, who has twice been elected statewide in Massachusetts, followed Sanders and Biden and polled at 14 percent support.
Pete Buttigieg pulled in 11 percent support, which Emerson Polling Director Spencer Kimball showed "increasing momentum" for the South Bend mayor.
Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California scored 8 percent and 7 percent, respectively.
President Donald Trump enjoyed significant support among the 183 Massachusetts Republican voters polled, claiming 82 percent support to potential Republican primary challenger and former governor Bill Weld's 18 percent.
Emerson Polling said the general election "does not appear competitive" in Massachusetts, with Biden leading Trump 69-31, Sanders leading Trump 64-36 and Warren leading Trump 63-37 in hypothetical matchups.
Massachusetts voters will go to the polls on Super Tuesday, March 3, 2020, to vote in the party presidential primaries.
The Emerson poll was conducted April 4 - April 7, with 545 registered voters responding via landline telephone and 216 registered voters responding through an online survey. The polling group said its margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
