Chuck Todd, host of "Meet the Press Daily" on MSNBC, spoke with Boston Public Radio Thursday about President Trump's campaign strategy for the 2020 election.

"The fact is, Trump is still trying to run the same race he ran four years ago," Todd said. "Four years later, there's no evidence that his base has gotten bigger, and his vote share has gotten slightly smaller, so I don't know how he recreates what he did in 2016 without a third-party candidate."

Having a third-party candidate enter the race is one of the only real chances Trump has of cracking the electoral college, Todd added.

"Until a semi-serious third-party candidate that can get 3 or 4 percent shows up, I don't know if whatever it is Trump thinks that he can pull off in the electoral college is as doable as people fear that it is."
