Gov. Charlie Baker diverted from his usual speech topics of energy, development and education Thursday to address what was obviously on the audience’s mind — the weather and the MBTA.

Baker, addressing the New England Council economic development association, even had a safety reminder.

"I've learned a lot about snow," Baker told the crowd. "The fluffy stuff you have on your roof weighs about 7 pounds per cubic foot. After the rain this weekend, that snow is going to weigh about 21 pounds per cubic foot."

Baker promises that he’s thinking about long-term improvements to the MBTA and believes the state will qualify for federal disaster assistance after the storms.
