Voters on Boston's North Shore are sending Democrat Seth Moulton to Washington to represent them in Congress. Political newcomer Moulton beat Republican Veteran Richard Tisei by a solid 15 points.

It was another crowded, tense ballroom as the numbers rolled in. But when Moulton won 69 percent of the vote in the city of Lynn, the crowd was convinced he would win. And he did. It was his second victory party. Moulton first ousted incumbent Democratic Congressman John Tierney in the primary, then ran a tough but generally high-minded race against Tisei.

“I am proud that our race has been held up in recent days as a model for how races should be run, and how politics should be,” Moulton said.

The 6th District is overwhelmingly independent and voters like Mary Jane Brown of Hamilton had long supported Tierney.

“Seth was such a breath of fresh air and enthusiasm and motivation,” she said.

Moulton is 35 years old, a Harvard graduate and has served four tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine. He promises to focus on veterans' care and transportation in Congress. His victory keeps the Massachusetts Congressional delegation all Democratic.
