Last May, New England-based outdoor travel tech company The Wanderlust Group decided to cut Mondays from their workweek to help address pandemic burnout. Now, results from the past year show that the new system has worked — both in terms of company revenue and employee morale. CEO Mike Melillo joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston to share more.
Unlike some companies that have shortened the work week, Wanderlust didn’t spread out hours over four days — it simply cut Monday and kept the regular schedule Tuesday to Friday. It was originally a summer experiment, and Melillo decided to make it permanent because of its success.
“Productivity increased, happiness increased and our results speak for themselves,” Melillo said. “At the end of the day it’s about putting people in a position to do their best work.”
