The Biden administration has a golden opportunity to finally eradicate white nationalists from the military's ranks after several people with military ties allegedly took part in a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Jack Weinstein.
“We have a new president of the United States, and we’re going to have a new secretary of defense," Weinstein told host Jim Braude on Greater Boston Thursday. "We can tackle these problems now.”
Weinstein, who teaches international security at Boston University, offered three suggestions to help address the problem:
1. search white-nationalist social media groups for photos of people in uniform, and remove them from the military,
2. screen people before they come on active duty to make sure they are not a member of a white nationalist or extremist group and
3. determine whether recruiters are bringing white nationalist members into the military's ranks.
