The U.S. Department of Justice asked to step in to defend President Donald Trump on Tuesday against a defamation lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll, accusing Trump of rape. Trump has denied the charge.

"The Justice Department intervened in this case in order to delay it past the election," Andrea Cabral told Boston Public Radio on Thursday. "Trump has been steadily losing all of the pre-trial rulings and motions, up to the point where he had been ordered by the judge to turn over his DNA."

Cabral is the former secretary of public safety and sheriff of Suffolk County. She is currently the CEO of Ascend.
