In a move observers are calling unprecedented, a federal judge overseeing the case against President Trump’s former national security advisor Michael Flynn decided, on Wednesday, to appoint a retired judge to oppose the Justice Department’s motion to have their own case dismissed.
To break down exactly what’s going on and offer her analysis, former Suffolk County prosecutor Andrea Cabral joined Boston Public Radio Thursday.
Cabral began by likening the new role for Judge Gleeson to the attorneys representing defenseless children.
"If you really think about this,” Cabral said, “[Sullivan] is essentially making retired Judge Gleeson, appointing him as almost a guardian ad litem for the people of the United States.”
"I credit Judge Emmet Sullivan for looking at what’s an extraordinary and unprecedented move by the DOJ, and responding with an equally extraordinary sort of remedy,” she added.
