Emily Rooney, host of WGBH News' Beat the Press, joined Boston Public Radio on Friday to reflect on the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and eight others. She spoke about how Stephen Colbert, host of "The Late Show," opened up this week about losing members of his family in a plane crash, when Colbert was only 10 years old.

"Colbert's two brothers and father were killed in a plane crash in 1974, and he was talking about how that airplane crash is one of the reasons why they changed the whole regulations with the airline industry and black boxes became an absolute necessity," she said. "Helicopters don't have to carry black boxes, and Kobe Bryant's did not, so [Colbert] was talking about how that should be one of the new rules."
