Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is leading in the polls in Iowa this month. Yet a recent Quinnipiac poll shows that Buttigieg received less than one percent of support among black voters in South Carolina, which is the first southern state to have a presidential primary.

Callie Crossley, host of WGBH News’ Under The Radar, joined Boston Public Radio on Friday to speak about why Buttigieg seems to be struggling with black and minority voters.

"Pete Buttigieg's main problem is not the fact that he's homosexual. His problem is that he's not making a connection in his own community and in others," Crossley said. "You want a person that can speak to everybody, all Americans, so it's more than just a political weakness, I think this is a very important problem that he needs to be addressing in a more serious way."
