House Democrats have announced they will begin public hearings as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump next week.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., announced two days of hearings. The first will be with Acting Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent on Wednesday, Nov. 13. On Nov. 15, the committee will hear from former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.
National security expert Juliette Kayyem joined Boston Public Radio on Wednesday to break down the impact of having impeachment hearings in public.
"We're at the stage now where the witnesses appear credible and they're all corroborating each other," she said. "The public hearings are going to do two things. One, the Republicans will do what they're going to do and that will be seen by the public. It's clear impeachment polling is going in favor of impeachment, I think that will just add in the sense. But the second is, people like me who weren't necessarily for impeachment in the beginning, I think it's going to show a president seeking assistance for a foreign power for 2020, that's where I changed."
