Tomorrow will bring the formal announcement from Massachusetts Rep. Joseph Kennedy III that he will challenge Sen. Ed Markey in the next Senate race.
Emily Rooney, host of WGBH News' Beat The Press, joined Boston Public Radio on Friday to give her thoughts on the challenge.
"I can understand why the [Democratic] party is upset," she said. "They think it'll pull money and attention away from other races where Democrats might need the attention."
Rooney, however, thinks the challenge is healthy for democracy. "I think it's a good thing. I'm very, very fond of Ed Markey and I think he's been an extremely effective Congressman and Senator," she said. "I also really like Joe Kennedy."
