President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he asked John Bolton to resign from his position as national security adviser. CNN Chief National Political Correspondent John King spoke with Boston Public Radio Tuesday about Bolton and Trump's many differences in opinion, which he said led to the national security adviser's resignation.

"John Bolton has been very skeptical to the president's approach to North Korea, he is much more of a hawk when it comes to Russia and he opposed bringing the Taliban to Camp David. The list goes on and on and on," King said.

Trump announced that he asked Bolton to resign, while Bolton maintains that he himself proposed the idea to the president, King added.

"Finally push came to shove last night," he said. "The president says he asked for Bolton's resignation. John Bolton says that's not true, and he continues to say that's not true after the White House made the announcement today."
