In all the midterm election noise, Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election has been quiet … but will all that change, now that Democrats have taken over the House of Representatives?
According to National Security Expert Juliette Kayyem, the results of the midterms represent a change in the national fatigue that “nothing matters” and Trump has unilateral power. “I think this is going to get very unnerving,” Kayyem said in an interview with Boston Public Radio Wednesday. “I think one of the scenarios that gets played out is: if a family member is indicted now that [Trump] has lost the House, what will Trump do? And what will the Senate, even though it’s majority-Republican, be able to to tolerate, given what he might do?”
When it comes to making an impact on the presidency, Kayyem says it’s not so much about what Mueller comes up with to test Trump, but what a jury decides. “If you think that the next move is an indictment against a family member, either Donald Trump Jr. or Jared,” Kayyem said, “I think it matters.”
