On Tuesday, Canadian scientists took to the streets in white lab coats to protest government cuts to research budgets. They contend the government is trying to put a muzzle on environmental research that might run contrary to industry agendas.

One of the items on the chopping block are the unique Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), where entire lakes can be subjected to large-scale experimentation. Ari Daniel Shapiro  visited the ELA to report on some of the possible repercussions of government funding cuts. It’s highly recommended listening.

For those who prefer to read, rather than listen, here’s the  Guardian’s article on the protest from Monday.
Gotta wonder: would anything like this ever happen in the U.S.?
