Sean Ellis On His Dropped Charges – 25 Years Later
After 25 years, two mistrials and one overturned conviction, Suffolk County prosecutors on Monday dropped their case against Sean Ellis, who served 22 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Boston Police Detective John Mulligan in 1993.
Law enforcement said the decision does not mean he’s innocent, but Ellis’ conviction was long complicated by the fact that two of the detectives investigating the case were later found guilty on federal corruption charges for a scheme that may have involved Mulligan before his death.
Ellis’ conviction was overturned in 2015, but it was not until the announcement that Suffolk prosecutors would not retry Ellis that the legal process was actually over.

Jimmy Tingle’s Political Ambitions Were No Joke
