Special Counsel Robert Mueller is planning to issue new indictments in the coming days, according to a CBS News report. While nothing official has been announced as of this taping early Tuesday evening, it looks like the election pause is over. The Mueller team is now working under newly-appointed Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, following Jeff Sessions’ exit from the administration last week. Whitaker’s long history of criticism of the Russia investigation has some legal scholars and top congressional Democrats concerned. In addition, the state attorney general of Maryland has asked a federal judge to block Whitaker from serving as acting attorney general because he was not confirmed by the Senate.
Jim Braude spoke to Carmen Ortiz, who served under former President Barack Obama and successfully prosecuted Dzokhar Tsarnaev and James Whitey Bulger, and is now working with Anderson & Kreiger LLP; and Don Stern, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton and worked alongside Robert Mueller both during his stint with the Department of Justice and in private practice at Hale and Dorr.
