What started as a small chain of movie theaters in the Boston suburbs is now a multimillion dollar media empire that includes CBS and Viacom. The man behind it, Sumner Redstone, got his start in 1967 after taking over the family business, which he turned into a media powerhouse over the next 40 years. But building this star-studded empire wasn’t without its costs, including a father-daughter estrangement that made its way into a court battle featuring two former live-in girlfriends accused of exploiting the aging media mogul for money.
