A pioneer in the male-dominated sports media business, Lesley Visser became the first woman ever on the NFL beat when she took over Patriots coverage for The Boston Globe in 1976 at a time when women weren’t even allowed in the press box.
From there, she became the first female sportscaster assigned to a Super Bowl sideline, to report on Monday Night Football, to carry the Olympic torch, and she was the first woman ever to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
But Visser faced an uphill battle most of the way. She joined Jim Braude to discuss all that and her new book, “Sometimes You Have To Cross When It Says Don’t Walk: A Memoir of Breaking Barriers.”
