911 is dealing with outages across Massachusetts, according to the state’s Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

A cellphone alert was sent out to residents around 2:30 p.m.

In a tweet, the Boston Police Department encouraged residents to contact their nearest station as needed, or to use emergency fire boxes.

Officials say 311 is still working.

The reason for the outage and its expected duration is not yet clear.

The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security says 911 service has now been restored and that more information about the outage is forthcoming.
