This year, the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation is awarding seven first responders and frontline works with special Profile in Courage awards, including one here in Massachusetts.
Fred Freeman is a captain in the Hanover Fire Department. He led the establishment of the town's mobile integrated health unit last spring, which brought crucial healthcare and testing to those most vulnerable in the community.
"It feels really good to be recognized, but I want to accept the award on behalf of everybody," Freeman said. "It's important to recognize that nobody did something this size by themselves."
The unit Freeman helped create and run is still operating in Hanover. He and the other recepients will take part in an awards ceremony later this month.
Then we heard from Dr. Marcia Golberg, an infectious disease expert at Massachusetts General Hospital, about a study she co-lead that looked at what causes severe COVID-19 infection in some and mild illness in others.
