Though the number of new coronavirus cases in Massachusetts is still far lower than hotspots like Florida or California, cases of COVID-19 are beginning to rise, again, throughout the commonwealth.
And while Gov. Charlie Baker has attributed bumps to isolated instances of poor judgment, Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett, during an interview Monday on Boston Public Radio, implied that the speed of the state’s reopening hasn’t helped.
“With a phase three, we’re talking about gyms, we’re talking about casinos, movie theaters, and galleries,” Gergen Barnett said. “And those are all nice, they’re important for businesses, but if we’re actually talking about prioritizing children and getting back to school, then we have to be making some tough choices. And in order to do that, you need to think very seriously about what you’re allowing to happen now."
Gergen Barnett also answered questions from listeners, touching on everything from antibody effectiveness to advice on caring for newborns.
Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett is the vice chair of primary care innovation and transformation and residency director of the department of family medicine at Boston Medical Center.
