"Boston Globe" columnist Shirley Leung joined Boston Public Radio on Wednesday to discuss the fraud allegations currently facing Massachusetts State Rep. David Nangle.
Nangle, who was arrested Tuesday, is accused of defrauding his bank lender and using campaign funds to accommodate an extensive gambling habit.

"What struck me about it was how brazen he was, allegedly, in carrying out these frauds,” Leung said. "And he also was on the ethics committee, right? And the rules committee!"
"I guess if you’re on the ethics committee, at least you could keep track if someone suspects you, right? Maybe it was part of his alleged con, right? To keep an eye out on himself.”
Nangle faces ten counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, nine counts of making false statements to a bank, and five counts of filing false tax returns. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
