The Lyric Stage Company recently announced Courtney O'Connor as its third ever artistic director, WGBH Executive Arts Editor Jared Bowen told Boston Public Radio on Thursday.
"The Lyric Stage Company just announced it's third artistic director in it's history, Courtney O'Connor, the director of The Cake," Bowen said.
There are not many women leading theater companies in Boston, Bowen noted, so O'Connor's new role comes as a welcome addition.
"We're not going to see changes in arts and storytelling until we see changes in administrations and on boards, so to have a woman leading this theater company... I think it's a great move by Lyric Stage Company," he said. "I think she's very talented and has an expansive viewpoint, so we should see a wider breadth of thought in the theater sector in this town."
