WELLESLEY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts college employee who posted a controversial Facebook post about Iran bombing the U.S. was suspended Wednesday.
Babson College’s director of sustainability, Asheen Phansey, faced disciplinarian actions for a post he made on social media on Tuesday that suggested Iran list 52 American cultural sites that Iran could bomb, the Boston Herald reported.
President Donald Trump posted on Twitter on Jan 4. that the U.S. has targeted 52 Iranian sites in reference to rising tensions between the two countries.
“Babson College condemns any type of threatening words and/or actions condoning violence and/or hate,” the college said in a statement. “This particular post from a staff member on his personal Facebook page clearly does not represent the values and culture of Babson College.”
In the now-deleted post, Phansey wrote, “In retaliation, Ayatollah Khomenei should tweet a list of 52 sites of beloved American cultural heritage that he would bomb. Um… Mall of America? Kardashian residence?”
In a statement Wednesday, the former employee said, “I regret my bad attempt at humor. As an American, born and raised, I was trying to juxtapose our ‘cultural sites’ with ancient Iranian churches and mosques.
Phansey added, “I am completely opposed to violence and would never advocate it by anyone. I am sorry that my sloppy humor was read as a threat.”
