After his wife Laura Levis died following an asthma attack right outside of Somerville Hospital because she was unable to enter the emergency room, reporter Peter DeMarco investigated the circumstances that led to her death. The article detailing what he discovered was published by The Boston Globe in November. On Monday, state legislators announced two bills in response to an investigation into the circumstances of Levis' death — one that would mandate clearer demarcation of emergency entrances, and another that would repeal the cap on damages that hospitals pay plaintiffs in a medical malpractice lawsuit.
Jim Braude was joined by Peter DeMarco, and by two of the legislators behind those bills, State Senator Patricia Jehlen and Representative Christine Barber.
