In any given year, seminal events happen — just not as many as in 1968. There were two assassinations and major battles over a distant war, over civil rights and women's rights at home. On the lighter side, there were breakthroughs in sports, music, architecture and outer space. In our 1968+50 series, WGBH News retold those stories, showing how those events were connected to Massachusetts or had an impact in the state. Two stories chronicle what happened in nearby New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
Ken Cooper, who edited the series, narrates this compilation of 14 radio stories. The newsroomwide effort involved a dozen reporters. Editing help came from Sean Corcoran, Peter Kadzis and Aaron Schachter. This audio special will air Dec. 30, 2018 and was produced by Andrew Massaua. Archival sound from Third World Newsreel and Rhode Island Historical Society was used.
