In July, Congressman Seth Moulton said it was the "responsibility" of members of the military to disobey unlawful military orders issued by Donald Trump if he became Commander-in-Chief.
Now that Donald Trump has been elected president, the Congressman stood by his call.
Moulton pointed to Trump's statement last December that he would "take out" the families of terrorists as an example of an unlawful order that members of the military should disobey.
"He was talking about the indiscriminate bombing of the Middle East, not just terrorists but innocents and their families. If that's what Trump pursues it will be incumbent on members of our military to disobey the order," Moulton said.
"It's unlawful to kill innocent civilians no matter where they are, where they're from, or what their religion is," he continued. "Incidentally, it creates more terrorists than it kills."
Beyond national security, Moulton said he was concerned about civil rights abuses within the United States under President Trump, particularly the discrimination against Muslim citizens because of their religion.
"We're going to persevere. We're going to respect the results of the election and work with Donald Trump when we can," Moulton said. "But don't make any mistake—I'm not going to back down from protecting the fundamental rights and principles, including those enshrined in our Constitution."
