A Christian college in Massachusetts says it's "saddened and disappointed" about a lawsuit that alleges it disciplined a professor for opposing the school's stance on gay workers.
Gordon College said in a statement early Friday the suit filed by the state's ACLU chapter on behalf of professor Lauren Barthold "grossly misrepresents what happened."
Barthold says she was threatened with termination and removed from leadership positions after she openly opposed Gordon President D. Michael Lindsay, who signed a letter to President Barack Obama asking for a religious exemption to an executive order that banned discrimination based on sexual orientation in the federal workforce.
The college said Barthold was disciplined by fellow professors because she publicly called for a possibly harmful boycott of the school.
The school said it fosters open discussions about sexuality.
