There is one man in Massachusetts, looking to shake up the political landscape. Senator Dan Wolf ( @SenatorDanWolf) may decide to challenge the most popular governor in America, Governor Charlie Baker. Wolf, founder of Cape Air, would be up against a Governor with an approval rating of 74%, the highest of any sitting governor in the country. Wolf says he will make his decision to run in at least a year from now.
Wolf sat down with Jim on Tuesday night to discuss his potential run for governor. On the issue of income equality in Massachusetts, Wolf says, "we are moving backwards." He cites the MBTA as an example of a lack of investment in long term projects, "We are choosing not to invest in long term infrastructure [for the MBTA.]" On taxes and the millionaires tax, Wolf says, "It isn't a question of more or less tax, it's a question of how we raise revenue to get the job done."
When asked to critique Charlie Baker, Wolf says, "after eight years with Deval Patrick and an 80% majority in the legislature, if we couldn't get things done during that period ... it's unfair to beat up on a Governor who's been in for 14 months."
Wolf is a business man, who is supporting Bernie Sanders for president. "Our political system has disenfranchised the electorate," says Wolf. "There is a fracture in that, and it's bipartisan ... we've got a bipartisan fracture here."
Wolf says his "commitment now is to be part of a movement that ... is a national groundswell," not necessarily the leader of that movement. He says he will "be happy carrying signs in the back of the march." In a year or so, we will see if Wolf decides to lead that movement or stand behind another leader.
