Last fall, Tiffany Cherry brought her infant son to a nurse practitioner near her home in Pennsylvania when the child had trouble taking on weight. The nurse practitioner advised Cherry to take the baby to the emergency room. Cherry refused, and instead drove five hours to Massachusetts, where she has family, so her infant could be treated at Boston Children's Hospital. The nurse practitioner alerted police and an Amber Alert was issued. Cherry was arrested upon her arrival to Children's Hospital and her children have been placed in the care of her aunt by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Today, charges in Pennsylvania stemming from Cherry's refusal to take her child to the emergency room were dropped. Cherry spoke with WGBH All Things Considered host Barbara Howard about all that's happened since her long drive to Boston.
