Problems with the Boston Globe’s home delivery have triggered a spate of problems at other newspapers in the region.

PCF used to be the one big delivery service for newspapers in the region. But when the Globe made its switch to new contractor, ACI, that triggered turmoil for PCF and its customers.

Chuck Goodrich, the publisher of MetroWest Daily News said,  “There has been unquestionably some domino effect with what’s happened over at the Globe and with ACI recruiting away carriers who were previously working with PCF,” said Goodrich.

He says PCF is working to replace those carriers. But that -- in and of itself -- is causing another set of problems.  Beth Bresnahan, the CEO of the Daily Item in Lynn, says that as a result of newly-hired carriers, the Item has been getting substantial delivery complaints.

“We hope just for our own customers and also for the industry as a whole that it gets resolved quickly from the ACI side and PCF,” said Bresnahan.

The Boston Globe initially dropped PCF because of concerns about their service, but they’ve now turned back to the company for help. Both Goodrich and Bresnahan say prior to the Globe shaking things up in the industry, they were satisfied with the service PCF was providing.
