This afternoon, President Barack Obama announced there was no "specific, credible threat" on the homeland ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. He had a point: the biggest threat to your health and safety this Thanksgiving might be, in fact, sitting in your kitchen at this very moment.

That's right—carving your turkey for Thanksgiving is more likely to cause you bodily harm than anything else this Thursday.

"Your risk tomorrow from injury by knife is much greater than your risk from terrorism," said Juliette Kayyem, homeland security expert and host of the "Security Mom" podcast.

Luckily, she gave us some tips on how to keep all digits intact on the big day.

"Don't let your kids cut the turkey," advises Kayyem. "Never cut toward yourself. Cut away, and your extra hand needs to be away from the knife."
