Nearly two weeks before the uproar over a South Carolina police officer’s physical and violent encounter with a female black high school student, a video circulated out of  Pawtucket’s Tolman High School in Rhode Island portrays  a similar incident.

The video is shown above though police emphasize it shows only a portion of what happened.

Seniors at Tolman High School,  Montrell Sivels and David Garcia, told The Valley Breeze  that they intended to organize a tpeaceful protest before school to express student outrage for what they called an unnecessary “body slam.” Sivels told The Breeze that things started to get out of control went a student pulled a fire alarm, and officers used pepper sprayed the students. Sivels and Garcia said that’s when tensions escalated.

Reporters Philip Eil, George Brennan, and Emily Corwin joined Callie Crossley to discuss this and other regional headlines.
