Boston Mayor Marty Walsh Wednesday announced an effort to create a citywide plan to guide development over the next 15 years. He’s calling it a 2-year public engagement process that will include architecture, schools and transportation.  Radio’s Anne Mostue was at the announcement and has this report.
Walsh says he’s creating a new office - Imagine Boston 2030 – and will organize city wide meetings. He says there are several neighborhoods that need “vision.”

“I think Mattapan could benefit from a master plan," said Walsh. "Dudley, we’ve worked on the Ferdinand Building. Dudley, Dorchester, Hyde Park, parts of Southie.”

The initiative is intended to lead to a new master plan for the city – the first since 1965. Walsh says the timing is NOT related to the Boston 2024 Olympic bid, but he maintains hosting the games could be part of moving the city forward. There isn’t yet a calendar for the city meetings on urban planning.
